7. The Responsible King

Once upon a time, there was a king who lived in a palace on the banks of a river. He was unhappy because the people of his kingdom were irresponsible. Everytime he went out in his chariot, he used to see stones and rubbish lying on the roads. Every time he sailed in his boat, he found the river very dirty.

एक समय की बात है, एक राजा था जो नदी के किनारे एक महल में रहता था। वह दुखी था क्योंकि उसके राज्य के लोग गैर-जिम्मेदार थे। हर बार जब वह अपने रथ में बाहर जाता, वह सड़कों पर पत्थर और कचरा बिखरा हुआ देखता था। हर बार जब वह अपनी नाव में जाता, उसे नदी बहुत गंदी मिलती थी।

"Alas! Why are my people so irresponsible?" he moaned.

"Alas! Vhy ar my peepal so irresponsibal?" he mond.

"हाय! मेरे लोग इतने गैर-जिम्मेदार क्यों हैं?" उसने कराहते हुए कहा।

"Why do they not keep the roads clean?", he thought for a while and said, "I must teach them a lesson." One night, he took a bag of gold coins with him and went to the main road. His vizier was also with him.

"Vhy doo they not keep the rodes kleen?", he thaut for a whail and sed, "I must teech them a lesan." Van nait, he took a bag of gold koins with him and went to the mayn rod. His vizeer waz also with him.

"वे सड़कें साफ क्यों नहीं रखते?", उसने थोड़ा सोचा और कहा, "मुझे उन्हें सबक सिखाना होगा।" एक रात, वह अपने साथ सोने के सिक्कों का थैला लेकर मुख्य सड़क पर गया। उसका वजीर भी उसके साथ था।

He saw a pit in the middle of the road. He put the gold coins in it. Then the king and the vizier covered the pit with a big stone.

उसने सड़क के बीच में एक गड्ढा देखा। उसने उसमें सोने के सिक्के डाले। फिर राजा और वजीर ने गड्ढे को एक बड़े पत्थर से ढक दिया।

Next day, a man came along the road in his cart which was full of coal. He saw the big stone in the middle of the road but he was not worried about it. He drove his cart round the stone.

Nekst day, a man kaym along the rod in his kart which waz ful of kol. He saw the big ston in the midal of the rod but he waz not worid abaut it. He drov his kart raund the ston.

अगले दिन, एक व्यक्ति अपनी गाड़ी में कोयला लेकर सड़क पर आया। उसने सड़क के बीच में बड़ा पत्थर देखा लेकिन उसे इसकी चिंता नहीं थी। उसने अपनी गाड़ी को पत्थर के चारों ओर चलाया।

Then another man came along with a flock of sheep and goats. The man did not pay attention to it and drove his flock round the other side of the stone.

फिर एक और व्यक्ति भेड़ों और बकरियों के झुंड के साथ आया। उसने इस पर ध्यान नहीं दिया और अपने झुंड को पत्थर के दूसरी तरफ ले गया।

Many other people also passed along the same road. But all of them were so irresponsible that they did not bother to remove the stone.

Menee othar peepal also pasd along the saym rod. But aul of them wer so irresponsibal that they did not bothar to rimoo the ston.

कई अन्य लोग भी उसी सड़क से गुजरे। लेकिन वे सभी इतने गैर-जिम्मेदार थे कि उन्होंने पत्थर हटाने की जहमत नहीं उठाई।

Finally, the king called all the people of his kingdom and said, "Come, let's remove the stone from the road." People were stunned to see the gold coins in the pit when they rolled the stone away.

Fainali, the king kauld aul the peepal of his kingdom and sed, "Kum, lets rimoo the ston from the rod." Peepal wer stund to see the gold koins in the pit when they rold the ston away.

अंत में, राजा ने अपने राज्य के सभी लोगों को बुलाया और कहा, "आओ, सड़क से पत्थर हटाते हैं।" लोग गड्ढे में सोने के सिक्के देखकर स्तब्ध रह गए जब उन्होंने पत्थर को हटाया।

"Look, there were gold coins under the stone but no one bothered to remove the stone. So no one deserves these gold coins. Had you been responsible and removed the stone, the gold coins would have been yours," the king said to his people.

"Look, thair wer gold koins undar the ston but no van bothard to rimoo the ston. So no van dezarvs theez gold koins. Had yoo been risponsibal and rimoovd the ston, the gold koins wud hav been yors," the king sed to his peepal.

"देखो, पत्थर के नीचे सोने के सिक्के थे लेकिन किसी ने पत्थर हटाने की जहमत नहीं उठाई। इसलिए कोई भी इन सोने के सिक्कों का हकदार नहीं है। अगर तुम जिम्मेदार होते और पत्थर हटाते, तो सोने के सिक्के तुम्हारे होते," राजा ने अपने लोगों से कहा।

The king ordered his vizier, "Take the gold coins to my palace." After hearing this the people felt ashamed and sorry too.

The king ordard his vizeer, "Tayk the gold koins to my palas." Aftar heering this the peepal felt ashaymd and sori too.

राजा ने अपने वजीर को आदेश दिया, "सोने के सिक्कों को मेरे महल में ले जाओ।" यह सुनकर लोग शर्मिंदा और दुखी भी हुए।
